Social media turn cannons towards Misbah

The South Asian nations have always been found passionate about cricket. The arch rivals like India and Pakistan supported by emotional spectators add more thrill to this game. Both the nations celebrate the victory and mourn the defeat through different means and methods, but the later rides on nerves for a long time until a suitable way of catharsis is found.

The Indian crowd known for its furious nature and not willing to accept the defeat at any cost, is another unique phenomenon that adds more color, suspense and charm to cricket fever in the subcontinent. In the past the burning of houses of the Indian players, stoning, and other examples of violence were common, which are not seen since long as the Indian teams has delivered very well in the nail-biting situations. On the other hand, the poor Pakistani crowd can be truly called the ‘silent-spectators’ who bear all the humiliation without any protest accepting it as something pre-written or simply their destiny, what the common people call it. But, ironically the outcome of emotions of this silent crowd is not always silent and most often felt in various modes of communication. In the near past, Mr.Zardari, WAPDA, Raymond Davis, Abbot Abad Operation and Veena Malik have been the most discussed people and events through SMS and Social Media like (Facebook, Twitter etc.). The catharsis on social media has become a routine matter thus making it one of the most effective medium of communication.

Mr. Misbahul Haq, alias Mr.Tuc Tuc who changed Pakistan’s victory against England in the last T-20 match into defeat, has earned reached the climax of popularity (Badnaam agar ho gayay kya naam na hoga???)  and is the most cursed individual on this planet after President Bush. (Although Octopus has predicted that Misbah will beat him after the Asian Cup is over).

Here are some examples about how social media is formulating the public opinion and what the fans of Mr.Tuc Tuc pay tribute to this legendary player-the player of the millennium.

All the above mentioned examples explain the truth about the social media as the place, where people can freely express their feelings without the fear of censorship. Although it contains material that could require a defined code of ethics, but even then, if seen through the prism of expressionism, one can conclude that social media has turned out to be the most powerful media. As far as the contents or matter is concerned, I hope it will always find people like Misbah, Veena and Zardari to provide good food for thought. 

The Social Media can play a watchdog role for main stream media

If media doing anything wrong then who see them? Who report their wrong direction? Who highlight the issues of human rights in the marketing of the product on media?

The better answer to these questions is: The Social Media can play a watchdog role for main stream media.

Now a day, everyone realize that most of the TV man (television journalist, anchor, cameramen, editor, director and producer) is like same like a salesman, trying hard to sell a product. They perform publicity stunts to get attention of the people. Therefore every one of them try to make their product different from others, same is the case of Maya Khan.

For the last two week you would got the rumor about “Maya Khan in the chase of dating couple in parks”. Maya khan morning show is one of the topics which are discussed by the people/social media users as well as of newspapers in last two weeks.

Before this issue, I was worried that who will be watchdog for media, but after Jan 22, 2012, “An open letter to Maya Khan” by Mehreen Kasana I got the answer that Social Media can be a watchdog for Main stream media (Media).

Maya Khan was the host of Morning Show on SAMAA TV “Subah Saverey Maya Kay Sath”. Mostly the morning TV shows are watched by House Wife’s. The topic of the show for January 17^th, 2012 was the “Dating couples in the parks”. As per Show format they have a team of about 20 individuals; including young and old age female and men. They went to parks; grab and harass the couples by asking their identity in the live show. In this Episode the faces are visible and easily recognizable. How the show was watched by the housewife and they enjoy the live chasing of the couple. As usual the video of the show was upload to the “Subah Saverey Maya Kay Sath” official YouTube channel.The faces of the couples were also visible in the uploaded videos.

An open letter to Maya Khan:

The issue was kicked in after January 22th of a open letter in response of these videos. Mehreen Kasana published a blog post on 22nd January, 2012 “An open letter to Maya Khan”. The blog/letter was also shared on Facebook, Twitter and the outrage grew. People were shocked at the level of intrusion and vigilantism on display. The people react on the moral policing. In this show they disgraced the individuals live on TV and then on YouTube.

In wordpress.com and Express Tribune Blog

In the blog she protested this moral policing also pointed out that “this kind of programming is likely to also lead to legal action for violation of dignity of man under the Constitution – which legal action us as signatories will support, propagate and promote.”

That Blog was the top 6 blog of the wordpress.org ranking in world on 23rd January 2012. Within 24 hours the reader Comments reached to 305 and all the comment is against the Maya Khan.

In Express Tribune Blog a question was asked at the end of blog post: “Do you feel Maya Khan was justified in asking couples to show their nikahnama in a public park” and the 95 % people say No.

The video was deleted from the TV show official YouTube Channel before the evening on 23^rd January, 2012 (right after 24 Hours of the blog). But the interested people about the issue, has download TV Show videos for evidences in future.

The Facebook page of Maya Khan was closed due to junks of comment on it.

Maya Khan on her show of Jan 23, 2012 acknowledged but she has not apologized on the issue. She was in the opinion that the act of chasing the couple is was not a wrong act. But if somebody is hurt, I am sorry for it.

Then 28 jan-2012 Maya Khan and her team fired by Samma TV and the next day termination notice Issued to Maya khan Morning show all team. The content regarding the “Subah Saverey Maya Kay Sath” was deleted/blocked by the admin of the show i.e. YouTube official Channel, Facebook fan page etc.

Impact on Maya Khan:

After raising the issue of the “Chasing dating couples” the picture of Maya Khan also circulated on the FaceBook and other social media. In these pictures, Maya Khan enjoying with Boys in different occasions. It was presumed to be date pictures. But Maya Khan declared them as her family’s pictures. However this is also wrong act to share his family photos, but here is a message to Maya Khan that if you are exposing someone live on TV, than you will have to face the power of social media for exposing your personality as well. Its social Media and everyone has its own gate keeper and they are owners of their pages. You can’t stop them.

Before the 17^th January, 2012 episode the Maya Khan’s show was already exposed in an episode of “Fake Saint”. In that show Maya Khan show the man with some supernatural qualities. In that the man was talking that Muhammad (PBUH) used to come into his dreams and forced him to spread its supernatural activities to others. The man tells some fake stories i.e. the Name of Allah and Holy Words (Kalma) on his back, forehead and chest; the floating Holy Quran in the air, The rose and fresh milk, the name of Allah on breads.

Inappropriate Contents on Facebook

Most of the people who uses internet, will be familiar with the word of Facebook. Facebook has more than 800 million active users.

Facebook is internet based powerfully social networking, the People use Facebook for share information, videos, audios and photographs and getting Entertainment.

It is very easy way to share your opinion with your friends, family members and classmates or even across the globe.

Last few months I observed that some inappropriate contents were share on the Facebook i.e. Sexual Video, Photos and application. The Facebook users do not share these contents. They were unaware of it. It is generated by the different applications on which the user clicks intentionally or unintentionally. Some of the applications share these contents in the user wall and profile. There friends also use these application and victim of it. These applications automatically post the application to their friends’ wall with inappropriate content, which also embarrass the user toward their friends and some time to their family. Then it is also observed that some people share different statements to aware their friend regarding these hacker or applications for Example:

ATTENTION: THE HACKERS ARE PUTTING INAPPROPRIATE VIDEOS TO YOUR NAME IN THE WALLS / PROFILES OF YOUR FRIENDS WITHOUT YOU KNOWING IT. YOU DON'T SEE IT, BUT OTHER PEOPLE CAN SEE IT, AS IF THESE WERE A PUBLICATION THAT YOU MADE! ALSO, THEY'RE SENDING INBOX MESSAGES TO YOUR FRIENDS ASKING YOU TO CLICK A LINK. DON'T DO IT!! SO IF YOU RECEIVE SOMETHING FROM ME ABOUT A VIDEO OR A STRANGE INBOX MESSAGE, IT'S NOT ME! copy this in your wall. It is for the security of YOUR OWN IMAGE!!! And REPORT IT!!!!! ALSO IF U ARE ASKED TO VOTE ON A PICTURE. DO NOT GO & VOTE: IT'S A HACKER!! POST THIS TO YOUR WALL FOR YOUR FRIEND...!!

Best of my knowledge, Facebook is a application based social network. Which control by your own self, no one can share video and pictures on your wall without your permission, and it is possible that your friends tag a picture, or share a video. But when we talk about the unwilling video and contents (Sexual Contents). Real story is, we see the following type of contact on Facebook,

The picture show the (Sexual) Content on Facebook user wall, if someone click on it, it transfer you to an application and on your and your friends wall without any permission, But its not a real video, it is just a application but is pictures (Sexual attraction ) or spam post from hackers.

Most of the users are in the opinion that we click on the picture because our friends share it. But it is not the hackers’ mistake it is our mistake. Because we are interested in such types of contents therefore we click on it.

If we are not interested in that content than no one can access to our basic information and tools. It shows our mantel levels. Blaming for friends and hackers is not enough. We need to started counting for our self. why we click on that contents which is unwilling (sexual content) and which is not consider good our Facebook friends.

Best of my information and my knowledge during using Facebook, if we take care then we did not face that type of problems. Secondly we should carefully observe when you click in Facebook, if the video our contents is of will known website i.e. www.youtube.com than its ok, if address shows the link “gpwpiii.blogspot.com” , “mattrieieis.blogspot.com” “awts-on-tv.blogspot.com” then be care on click on that type of contents. If these types of contents were share on your wall, deleted it. At least It is possible if you become victim.

Go to your profile by clicking on right top of your Facebook and check out your profile for such contents. if any unwilling content on your wall, please deleted it and enjoy the Facebook .
